About Karen

Hey Dude and/or Dudette,

I'm Karen, the person to thank (or blame) for this site. I'm a long-time freelance writer, specializing in humor. (Rough job, but somebody's gotta get out of bed at noon to do it.)

I was hatched in Portland, Indiana, and I graduated from Earlham College, Richmond, Indiana. For many years, I lived in Ashland, Oregon, before moving to my present abode in the Orlando, Florida, area.

My older son, Smitty, is a mathematics grad student at University of Florida in Gainesville. Smitty's wife, Bridgett, is also a student, and they have a delightfully droll daughter, Akiko, 7.

Younger son, Joel, is an attorney in Miami and on the brink of sending beaucoup moolah home to his dear mother. (I just feel it in my bones.)

Emily, my daughter, is a high school student, ballet dancer, and perfectly-behaved teen. [This sentence sponsored by Emily Williams.]

My stepson Dave is serving with the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton, California, and his brother, John, lives in northern California, where he is an electronic technician.

When not hunched over my computer, I enjoy hanging out with my beau and wondrous webmaster, Mark.

Thanks for dropping by!

Smitty: Whee! They actually issued me a diploma!!
Smitty: I'm like, well, a fountain of knowledge.
Akiko: How do I tell Aunty Em that outfit has gotta go??
Karen and Joel: Look out, Perry Mason, here comes Joel!
Backyard trees and pond: We, like, wish that Karen would come and spend time with us and scrap that computer.
Mark and Karen: Sprechen we Deutsch? Nine!
